Amazon’s New Monetizing Video Widget doesn’t like Nellymoser
Checking through my RSS feeds I discovered Amazon are now offering video monetization [TechCrunch], so I thought I’d give it a go.
The other night I made a silly video on seesmic pretending to down a bottle of vodka (it was water
so I thought that would be easy to find drinking game products. The result is below, and as you can see, although the concept is great, it doesn’t seem to like the Nellymoser codec which is used in Flash video recordings:
So, yet another tale of proprietary woes - if the codec was open sourced, this wouldn’t be a problem. A number of seesmic members are having problems converting the videos they make, and of course us Linux-lovers can’t even use sites like Seesmic because Flash doesn’t support recording on it yet.
In conclusion - great idea Amazon, but Flash needs to sort itself out, or open up totally before the open source guys re-engineer their whole business.
